TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS Work Moving Forward On Highway 103 Twinning

The Highway 103 twinning project is moving forward.

The province is spending more than $5 million this year on new road work between exits 3 and 4.

"These projects are in areas of high growth and I expect that travel times will be faster and the ride smoother once we twin this road," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "We are working to provide the most modern and effective road network possible."

The Highway 103 work includes seven kilometres of construction of subgrade from Exit 3 to Exit 4, and a new bridge crossing Nine Mile River. Work has started on the project and is expected to be complete by September 2004. Dexter Construction is doing the work.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
