Province Establishes Hurricane Juan Recovery Fund

Nova Scotians, their communities and organizations directly affected by Hurricane Juan will soon have a charitable fund to assist them with their restoration and recovery efforts.

"Many people and corporations have asked us how they could make donations to help the people and places who were hit hard by Hurricane Juan," Ernest Fage, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization, said today, Oct. 9. "Our government is pleased to respond by establishing the Nova Scotia Hurricane Juan Recovery Fund."

The minister said three prominent Nova Scotians will administer the charitable fund. Their names will be announced soon.

The administrators will accept applications for assistance from municipalities and not-for-profit community relief groups.

Mr. Fage said, "There are organizations and places throughout the province, such as food banks and public parks, that help. The Nova Scotia Hurricane Juan Recovery Fund can help bring them back to life." The fund administrators will also be responsible for disbursing the funds.

"It's heartwarming to hear people say they want to contribute something to help others. This reflects our spirit as Nova Scotians and we're pleased to do our part," said Mr. Fage.

The Royal Bank has stepped forward and will be accepting donations. Further details are expected to be announced Friday, Oct. 10.
