For more information on power and telephone outages, food safety and other aspects of the recovery process, Emergency Measures Organization officials recommend Nova Scotians contact the following numbers.
Food Safety: 902-424-1173
Water and Water Quality: 1-800-565-1633 (weekend and evenings only). During regular business hours contact 902-424-7773.
Nova Scotia Power Inc.: Remember that many people are calling this number. Do not hang up, calls are taken in the order they are received. Call 902-428-6004.
Aliant: To report an outage contact 611, to contact the business office call 811 or 1-800-688-9811.
Eastlink: Contact the business office at 902-453-2800.
HRM Corporate Call Centre: Open from 6 a.m. to midnight. For information on grocery store and gas station availability, garbage collection, tree debris questions and Metro Transit information call 490-4000. For Access-a-Bus dispatch call 490- 6999. Information is also available on the HRM Web site at www.halifax.ca . The site is updated daily at 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m.
Insurance: Contact your individual insurance agent regarding coverage. For information from the Insurance Bureau of Canada call the Halifax Consumer Information Centre at 1-800-565-7189 ext. 227.
Red Cross: To make a monetary donation, call 1-800-418-1111.
