Consumers who believe they have paid too much for essential goods and services in the wake of Hurricane Juan should seek help from local law enforcement authorities.
Consumers are encouraged to document the incident and save their receipts. They should register their complaint with local authorities next week, when officers will be finished with special disaster relief duties and will have time to follow up on the complaints.
If consumers have complaints about overcharging for gasoline, they can register a complaint with the local Environment office at 902-424-7773. Only incidents involving gasoline will be dealt with by provincial authorities. All other incidents will be dealt with by provincial or municipal law enforcement authorities.
Essential goods and services are those items necessary to consumers during this recovery period. They may include batteries, candles, electrical services, or gasoline.
