Leadership Change at NSLC
Andy Barker has left his position as president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC), effective immediately. The announcement was made today, Sept. 22, by NSLC Chairman Peter McCreath.
Mr. Barker's departure followed discussions that led to the conclusion that Mr. Barker and the NSLC board of directors shared different visions as to how the NSLC should move forward towards achieving the mandate set out for it in the Liquor Control Act.
"Andy Barker brought considerable energy, enthusiasm and retail expertise to the NSLC during his time with us," said Mr. McCreath. "We wish him every success as he moves forward in his career."
"I have enjoyed my time with the NSLC, in particular working with the staff and industry stakeholders," said Andy Barker. "I look forward to new challenges."
As per Mr. Barker's employment contract with the NSLC, he will receive seven months salary and benefits, valued at close to $90,000.
Mr. McCreath also announced today the appointment of Ken Barbet, currently VP, operations, as acting president of the NSLC.
"Ken has done an outstanding job as vice-president, operations, and we anticipate that he will work well with all NSLC stakeholders," noted Mr. McCreath.
A provincial Crown corporation, the NSLC operates 100 retail stores, with over 1,000 employees, and sales in excess of $400- million.
