New Payment Plan for Success College Students

The Department of Education and the Success College of Applied Arts and Technology have agreed to a new tuition payment plan for students.

The students' tuition money will be held in trust and payments forwarded to the college on their behalf on a biweekly basis. The change means that all students will now pay their tuition to a trust account instead of directly to the college.

"We're doing everything we can to help the students while the college continues to work to address its financial situation," said Education Minister Jamie Muir. "It's our job to take the necessary steps to protect the students in cases such as this to ensure they still get their training."

The department will continue to monitor the situation at the college on a weekly basis.

Success College filed for creditor protection under a provision of the Bankruptcy Act on Aug. 29.

Success College has campuses in Truro and Sackville and in Moncton, N.B. There are about 158 students attending the college in Nova Scotia.

Staff from the Department of Education will meet with students on the college's campuses in Nova Scotia today, Sept. 10, to update the students and answer their questions.
