Major Improvements to Trunk 19
The province is spending almost $3.5 million this year on improvements to Trunk 19 in Inverness County.
A portion of the roadway is being upgraded and two bridges - the Sandy Gillis Bridge at Judique Intervale Brook and Little River Bridge at Mill Creek near Port Hood - will be replaced.
"This is a major investment in Inverness County," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The county's residents will benefit from these improvements for years to come."
About four kilometres of Trunk 19 will be paved, from 900 metres north of River Denys Mountain Road, to 250 metres north of Sandy Gillis Bridge.
J&T Van Zutphen Construction Inc. was awarded the contract. Work has already begun and will be completed by Oct. 31, 2003.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
