Moments in Nature Captured by Valley Artist

A collection of 20 recent watercolours, by Annapolis Valley artist Twila Robar-DeCoste, captures moments in nature. This fine collection of winged-wonders, including butterflies, moths and birds, is on display at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax until Oct. 13.

Inspired by the beauty and diversity of the natural world, Ms. Robar-DeCoste works in watercolour, acrylic, pen and ink and oils to create realistic paintings of plants, animals and other wildlife.

"The elements of nature are diverse, complex and full of mystery," said Alex Wilson, manager of interpretation. "Ms. Robar-Decoste's paintings are charming time capsules of these wondrous moments."

Trained as a biologist at Acadia University, Ms. Robar-Decoste has a deep appreciation of the relationship between plants, animals and landscape.

"Through her art, she records stories of these precious moments of time and place for all to enjoy," said Mr. Wilson.

Ms. Robar-Decoste's illustrations have appeared in several recent publications including Merritt Gibson's, The Old Place; A Natural History of a Country Garden; and Pamela Hickman's, At the Seashore, and In the Woods. She has exhibited her work throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario. Her works are found in private and corporate collections throughout North America and Europe.
