Applications are now available to fund projects that will help people with mental disabilities access Nova Scotia's justice system and other advocacy services.
The Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, in co-operation with the Disabled Persons Commission, is making a total of $90,000 in funding available over three years. The funding began in the spring of 2002, with the first grant of $30,000 being awarded to Reach Nova Scotia.
In 2003, another $30,000 is available to fund projects. Funds are targeted for innovative projects that will assist people with mental disabilities gain access to legal education and other advocacy and justice services. Not-for-profit organizations, or groups that work or advocate on behalf of people with mental disabilities, are eligible to apply.

The funds are available as a result of a settlement agreement reached in 2002 in a human rights complaint by H. Archibald Kaiser against the Executive Council of Nova Scotia.
