4-H Members To Travel To Western Canada

The Nova Scotia 4-H program will send six of its top members to western provinces and host six youths as part of the 41st annual Royal Bank of Canada Interprovincial Exchange Program.

Beginning July 2, 4-H members from across the country will visit other provinces to exchange ideas and information about agriculture and their home provinces as they participate in this National 4-H Travel Award Program.

"This travel program presents 4-H members with the opportunity to learn new things and to meet fellow Canadians," said Gordon Balser, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. "I am confident that these young people will learn a lot while being excellent representatives for their program and the province."

The Nova Scotia delegates were selected through an interview process based on their applications and contributions to the 4-H program.

Katy Elliot from Margaretsville, Annapolis Co., is travelling to Alberta. Sandy Hunter from Linden, Cumberland Co., is being hosted in Ontario. Jody Waalderbos, Amherst, Cumberland Co., won the travel award to British Columbia. Lisa MacDonald, Enfield, Hants Co., will be travelling to Manitoba. Stephanie Sterling from Canning, Kings Co., will go to Saskatchewan. Megan Siegel from Shelburne, Shelburne Co., will be travelling to Quebec.

"We are pleased to be able to partner with the Royal Bank in this popular exchange program. They have been a strong supporter of 4-H for the past 41 years," says Elizabeth Crouse, manager of 4-H and rural organizations. "Because of this program 4-H members have been able to experience another part of rural Canada, its agriculture and people."

On Aug. 6, 4-H members from the participating provinces will visit the Nova Scotia delegates and their families to experience Maritime hospitality.

The sponsor, the Royal Bank of Canada, is hosting the 4-H travel delegates from the four Atlantic provinces at a congratulatory banquet and orientation session, Wednesday, July 2 in Halifax.
