TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Night Paving Job Begins on the
Trans-Canada Highway 104, Antigonish

Work crews have begun a nighttime paving project on the
Trans-Canada Highway 104 in Antigonish.

The work, between Exit 31 at James Street and Exit 33 at
Church Street, will take place at night to minimize
disruption to motorists.

Work will begin at 7 p.m., seven days-a-week, and continue
until 6 a.m. from Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturdays and
11 a.m. on Sundays.

Dexter Construction of Bedford has been awarded the tender,
worth $1.6 million. They will also repair an abutment on the
James River Bridge as part of the contract.

During construction, motorists can expect brief delays.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane controlled by traffic
lights, except during work at intersections, when traffic
control workers will guide vehicles through the construction
zone.

Work on this section, and on a daytime repaving job
involving 4.8 kilometers of Trans-Canada Highway 104 near
Exit 30 at James River, is expected to be completed by June
30.

Special provisions are in place to ensure speedy passage of
emergency vehicles during construction.

"This is one of many highway improvement projects my
department is carrying out this summer," said Michael Baker,
Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "It's part of
government's commitment to maintain and upgrade the
province's vital transportation links."

For up-to-date information on the project, or to record a
message for the project team, motorists can call the toll
free Highway Info Line at 1-866-720-2800.

The Nova Scotia Department of Transportation and Public
Works regrets any temporary inconvenience this necessary
construction may cause.
