TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Work Awarded on Route 289, Colchester County

The province is putting needed road work into Route 289 and Fields Road, Colchester Co.

The $1.1 million project will see gravelling and repaving on Route 289 from the CNR crossing at Brookfield to Fields Road (3.6 kilometres) and on Fields Road from Route 289 to Shortts Lake West Road (a third of a kilometre).

"This is another valuable road improvement project, one that will provide needed upgrades to our road infrastructure," said Michael Baker, Minister of Transportation and Public Works.

The work was awarded to Dexter Construction Co. Ltd. It is to be completed by Sept. 30.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from four district offices located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
