PREMIER'S OFFICE--Province Recognizes Opening of Juno Beach Centre

Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm has proclaimed June 6 as a day of recognition commemorating the opening of the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France.

The Juno Beach Centre was developed by a group of Canadian veterans of the Second World War who participated in the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, and subsequent European battles. The centre is a tribute to Canadians as well as a learning centre.

"This date is one that people will not soon forget," said the premier. "The centre may be in Normandy, but many veterans, their stories and their memories are here in Nova Scotia."

The Juno Beach Centre's opening is being celebrated across Canada today.
