Innovative Nova Scotia Youth Program on National TV
Centre 24/7, a unique youth program that helps young offenders get back on track, will be featured on CBC Television Sunday, June 8, in a re-broadcast of the television show The Docket.
Called Young Offenders: A Second Chance, the documentary tells the story of a teenager named Thomas, who is incarcerated. He attends an off-site school with 11 other youth from the Nova Scotia Youth Centre and eight students from the Annapolis Valley who have problems in the regular school system.
"The documentary and panel discussion that follows are excellent tools for public education," said Jamie Muir, Minister of Justice. "The Centre 24/7 program is an example of our commitment to a healthy, more prosperous Nova Scotia, and I want to congratulate department staff and other stakeholder groups for making it happen."
Youth worker Scott Bower and principal Joe Simatovic are also featured in the story, which was first broadcast by the CBC in March of this year. Young Offenders: A Second Chance will air at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. It will be re-broadcast on CBC Newsworld on July 3.
