Celebrate Museum Weekend, June 7-8

Forty-six museums across the province invite Nova Scotians and visitors to take part in special events and to experience their community's heritage on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8. The most difficult part of Museum Weekend may be deciding which celebration to attend.

The weekend will include opportunities to learn a new heritage skill or craft, make a kite like Alexander Graham Bell, or take in a new exhibit. Visitors can also discover amazing facts about life at sea, hear the music of the past, sample old-fashioned recipes or search for answers in a Heritage Hunt.

"This is a great weekend to celebrate Nova Scotia's rich cultural heritage and natural history," said Tourism and Culture Minister Rodney MacDonald. "Our museums always provide a fascinating look at who we are and where we've come from. This weekend will bring all sorts of special events."

The eighth annual Museum Weekend highlights the province's rich heritage and the significant role museums play in preserving and interpreting local culture and natural history. Nova Scotians are encouraged to visit a museum, try hands-on activities and learn something new about their community.

Many museums will also display artwork submitted by students in the I Spy Heritage Contest reflecting heritage in their communities.
