New Disaster Financial Assistance Information Line

EMERGENCY MEASURES ORGANIZATION--New Disaster Financial Assistance Information Line

Nova Scotians who are looking for information on the status of their Disaster Financial Assistance claims can now call a toll-free information line for an update.

The number is 1-888-670-7767 and it will be in operation from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The information line was set up by the Emergency Measures Organization to provide a quicker response to claim inquiries.

"We realize that many Nova Scotians have questions about how and when their claims are being processed," said Tim Olive, Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Act. "We have set up this toll-free information line to help alleviate some of their concerns."

Callers to the information line will be asked to provide their full name, civic address and, if available, their file claim number.

The call taker will record the caller's request and file the information. The file will then be reviewed and a response will be provided. If the call taker cannot address the request, it will be forwarded to the province's risk manager for a response. The caller will receive a reply within one business day.
