R-2000 Energy Efficient Homes Showcase Begins Today
Some of the province's most energy efficient homes were opened today, May 30, for public viewing as the Nova Scotia Home Builders' Association launched its annual R-2000 Showcase of Homes. This year, 18 energy efficient R-2000 homes are expected to be open for public viewing.
"The province of Nova Scotia is proud to support the R-2000 program," said Energy Minister Ernest Fage. "Reducing greenhouse gas emissions really does start at home with energy efficient housing. These R-2000 homes play an important role in our response to climate change."
Nova Scotia leads the country in the construction of R-2000 homes and has for a number of years. Currently, three per cent of all homes built in Nova Scotia are R-2000 homes. As consumers become increasingly aware of the benefits of R-2000 living, this number is expected to continue to rise.
"R-2000 homes are the most energy efficient, environmentally responsible homes available in today's real estate marketplace," said Paul Pettipas, chief executive officer of the Nova Scotia Home Builders' Association. "The R-2000 Showcase of Homes is the perfect opportunity for consumers to view some of the best housing projects in the province."
