Nova Scotia Sport Fishing Weekend Planned for June 7-8
AGRICULTURE/FISHERIES--Nova Scotia Sport Fishing Weekend Planned for June 7-8
All Nova Scotians are invited to try sport fishing during the ninth annual sport fishing weekend on June 7-8.
On June 7 and 8, residents of the province do not require a general sport fishing licence. All bag limits and regulations apply, however, and a salmon licence is required to fish for Atlantic salmon.
"The sport fishing weekend gives Nova Scotians the opportunity to experience sport fishing," said Gordon Balser, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister. "Fishing is an activity that can be enjoyed at any age."
Sport fishing in Nova Scotia is worth an estimated $85 million a year to the province's economy. A 2000 industry survey revealed that more than 56,000 Nova Scotian adults enjoy sport fishing each year and thousands more visit the province to fish. Most surveyed anglers rated the fishing in Nova Scotia as good, very good, or excellent.
