Acadian Affairs Has New Office
The Office of Acadian Affairs officially moved into its new permanent location, today, May 22. It is now located at 1740 Granville St., Halifax.
"I am very pleased that the Office of Acadian Affairs finally has its own space," said Neil LeBlanc, Minister responsible for Acadian Affairs. "This move marks the first time, since its creation more than 18 years ago, that the office has its own location."
The office space is one component of a project made possible by the Canada/Nova Scotia Agreement on Official Languages. The project, with a total value of $577,000, will enable Acadian Affairs to have a staff of three people, organize a committee of departmental co-ordinators responsible for identifying and responding to the need for French language services in their departments and develop a strategic plan in preparation of the renegotiation of the agreement.
"This project is another example of the government's support for the development of the Acadian community," said Mr. LeBlanc.
The minister highlighted the importance of the financial and moral support received from the Department of Canadian Heritage in the realization of this project. He also acknowledged the excellent spirit of co-operation that exists between Acadian Affairs and the federal department.
The Office of Acadian Affairs is located on the 7th floor of the Dennis Building, 1740 Granville St., Halifax.
