Minister Congratulates Truro, Host of Science Fair
Truro will welcome 450 budding young scientists to Nova Scotia when it hosts the Canada-Wide Science Fair in 2007.
"Nova Scotia excels at hosting people from across the country and around the world. With this event, we'll not only showcase our hospitality, but also our students' and teachers' excellence in science," said Education Minister Angus MacIsaac. "I was pleased to offer my support for this bid and I congratulate the bid committee on bringing this event to Truro."
The Youth Science Foundation Canada awarded the event to Nova Scotia today, May 16. The foundation co-ordinates the national fair each year.
The 2003 Canada-Wide Science Fair is currently running in Calgary from May 10 to 18. It is the largest extra-curricular youth activity related to science and technology in Canada. It encourages students to pursue educational and career opportunities in these fields.
A committee of teachers, administrators, parents and a student representative in the Chignecto Central Regional School Board submitted a bid for the event two weeks before the 2003 fair.
In addition to 450 competitors, Truro's nine-day fair will involve about 350 judges and 200 organizers and scientists.
