HEALTH PROMOTION--Golden Jubilee Medal Presented to Halifax Professor

Lt.-Gov. Myra Freeman and Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Health Promotion, presented a Golden Jubilee Medal to Elizabeth MacKinnon Lambie of Halifax today, May 13. Ms. Lambie received the medal for her work defining, teaching and promoting nutritional best practices for healthy babies, mothers and families.

"The work Ms. Lambie has done surrounding nutrition is a significant contribution to the overall health of Nova Scotians," said Mr. MacDonald. "As a province we're working towards a healthy and prosperous future and we're celebrating Ms. Lambie's contributions to that end."

The golden jubilee medal was created to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's golden jubilee as Queen of Canada. The medal is presented to Canadians in recognition of a significant achievement or distinguished service to their fellow citizens, their community or to Canada.

"Ms. Lambie's efforts have changed the practical understanding of the relationship between poverty, nutrition and health," said Susan McBroom, president of the Public Health Association of Nova Scotia, who nominated Ms. Lambie for the award. "Our association is just one of many that have benefitted from the talent and dedication to healthy nutrition Ms. Lambie has displayed for the past 50 years."

Ms. Lambie has significantly influenced public health policy and programming in Canada. She was a faculty member and professor at the Dalhousie School of Nursing for 25 years. She has been an active member of her community and involved with countless organizations formulating views and policies on Canadian health issues. Ms. Lambie has presented her research on nutrition and prenatal nutrition, at the local, national and international levels.
