Former Deputy Minister Appointed to the CNSOPB

Energy Minister Ernest Fage announced the appointment today, April 30, of former civil servant William Hogg to the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB).

"Mr. Hogg's extensive background and experience will be of great value in serving Nova Scotia's interest on the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board," said Mr. Fage. "In his role, he will be implementing federal and provincial policies to ensure the development of the offshore provides benefits for Nova Scotia."

Mr. Hogg has more than 25 years experience as a senior civil servant with the province of Nova Scotia, serving as deputy minister to a number of provincial departments. His knowledge of the petroleum industry in this province was gained during his time as deputy minister of Natural Resources from June 1995 to May 1998. During his tenure there he became familiar with the legislation and operations of the CNSOPB and was part of the selection committee for Nova Scotia's appointees and the chair.

Mr. Hogg has served on the board of Nova Scotia Resources Limited and was the lead negotiator for the provinces' first natural gas royalty regime.

The CNSOPB is the joint federal-provincial regulator of the offshore oil and gas industry. The board has five members -- two from Nova Scotia, two from the federal government and a chair who is appointed by both governments.
