Province Moving Quickly on Flood Damage Compensation
EMERGENCY MEASURES ORGANIZATION--Province Moving Quickly on Flood Damage Compensation
The province is moving quickly to provide compensation for Nova Scotians whose property was damaged during recent flooding.
Flood-affected residents will soon receive the first cheques for claims approved under the disaster financial assistance program, Tim Olive, the Minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization, announced today, April 23.
As of April 17, a total of 41 claims had been received and reviewed under the province's disaster financial assistance policy.
"The government is reviewing and processing the claims as fast as possible to ensure that homeowners and small businesses are compensated for uninsurable damage caused by the heavy rains and flooding," said Mr. Olive.
The deadline for claim submissions is Monday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m. Application forms and information can be picked up at local municipal offices or on the Emergency Measures Organization's Web site at www.gov.ns.ca/emo .
The province has established a toll-free phone line 1-800-898- 7668 (in Halifax Regional Municipality call 424-5851) to handle inquiries related to the financial assistance program. The line is staffed on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays to Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
