Province To Host Snow Crab Market Seminars

The Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will host a series of free marketing seminars from April 27 to April 29 for people involved in the snow crab industry stakeholders.

John Sackton of Seafood.com will present the latest information on the American and Japanese markets for the 2003 season. Mr. Sackton has provided market information and forecasts for Canadian snow crab over the past six years.

The presentation will cover information on the U.S. and Japanese markets; the competitive position of Canadian crab producers; market factors on price and demand; reactions of current users to today's price structure; external market factors; impacts on pricing and the outlook for the 2003 snow crab season.

Snow crab harvesters, processors, plant workers and off-loaders are encouraged to attend.

The seminars will be held in:

  • Port Hawkesbury on Sunday, April 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maritime Inn.

  • Cheticamp on Monday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kinsman Hall, 909 BelleMarche Rd.

  • Louisbourg on Tuesday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Albert Bridge Fire Hall, 4330 Louisbourg Highway.
