Improvements to Nova Scotia Agricultural College

TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Improvements to Nova Scotia Agricultural College

Lab students at the Cox Institute of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College will soon be working in better ventilated and illuminated facilities.

A tender to complete the final phase of a ventilation system upgrade in the 1983 wing of the Cox Institute laboratory in Truro has been called by the provincial government.

"This upgrade is going to improve the learning and working environment for students and researchers," said Michael Baker, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Education is one of the provincial government's priorities. We're increasing our investments in public schools, in universities and the Nova Scotia Community College. We're very happy to support this priority of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College."

The renovations will address health, safety, energy efficiency and building operational needs in the laboratory. The project will ensure optimum flow of fresh air into the lab and movement of stale air into fume hoods, in accordance with current standards. The upgrade also includes new energy efficient lighting.

Previous phases of the renovations were completed in 2001 and 2003.

The tender closes on Thursday, May 8.
