Auto Insurance Consumer Advocate Appointed
The Nova Scotia government announced today, April 11, that George Jordan has been appointed as consumer advocate to represent consumer issues on auto insurance.
"We're very pleased to have George Jordan sign on as the consumer advocate for the auto insurance public consultation," said Environment and Labour Minister Ron Russell. "His background and experience make him the right candidate for this job. I'm confident he will address this issue in a positive manner for consumers and demystify some of the complexity surrounding insurance rates."
Mr. Jordan has worked with the CBC in Halifax and with private television and radio stations in other parts of the country. His years of work on CBC Radio's Mainstreet involved a great deal of interaction with the audience and researching various issues.
Mr. Jordan will meet with groups and individuals to understand their concerns and use the information they provide to determine the appropriate auto insurance solution for Nova Scotians.
"I'm pleased to be taking on this challenge," said Mr. Jordan. "The issue of rising auto insurance premiums has been challenging for Nova Scotians, especially those on fixed incomes, such as seniors, as well as for working families, students and small businesses. I want consumers to tell me their stories, and give me their thoughts on possible solutions. Together we can find solutions to stabilize rates and improve our auto insurance system in this province."
The consumer advocate is also responsible for researching issues and proposals put forward in other provinces, and assisting in the development of policies that will assist consumers.
The consumer advocate position is an eight-month term position. Mr. Jordan can be reached by calling 902-424-2794 in Halifax, toll-free at 1-800-898-7668, or by e-mail to [email protected] .
