MLAs Congratulate New Status of Women Chair
Members of the Nova Scotia legislature joined Premier John Hamm tonight, March 31, in honouring the new Status of Women chair, Doreen Paris.
A resolution congratulating Ms. Paris, introduced by Premier Hamm, was adopted unanimously in the House of Assembly.
"Ms. Paris has been a member of the council since 1994, working hard to help women get away from violence, discrimination and abuse in their everyday lives," said the premier. "I want to thank her for her leadership in support of women in our communities."
Ms. Paris is moderator of the African United Baptist Association of Nova Scotia and past president of the Tearmann Society for Battered Women. Doreen's contributions to her community have earned her the New Glasgow Volunteer of the Year Award and the YWCA Women of Distinction Award.
Ms. Paris was born and raised in Gibson Woods, Kings Co. and currently lives in New Glasgow. Her new duties are to begin April 1, 2003 and end on March 31, 2005.
