Minister Proclaims Social Work Week
Community Services Minister David Morse officially proclaimed the week of March 23-29 Social Work Week. The theme of this year's week is Social Work for Social Justice.
Mr. Morse proclaimed the week on behalf of Premier John Hamm at a reception hosted by the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers on Tuesday, March 25, recognizing the dedication and skill of Nova Scotia's social workers.
"We are fortunate to have talented and compassionate social workers to care for our most vulnerable citizens," said Mr. Morse. "Social workers play a vital role in improving the well- being and independence of many Nova Scotians."
About 50 Department of Community Services' staff were among those honoured at the reception for their supervision of students in the bachelor of social work or masters of social work program at the Maritime School of Social Work.
"We are pleased to join the Association of Social Workers to recognize experienced social workers who share their knowledge and expertise with the students who are the social work profession of the future," said Mr. Morse. "By taking on this added duty, these professionals are playing an important part in strengthening the practice of social work in Nova Scotia."
Social workers with the Department of Community Services work with clients in several programs including income assistance, child welfare, employment support and funded agencies in communities across Nova Scotia.
