Nova Scotia will be well represented at the premier trade show for the seafood industry, the International Boston Seafood Show.

Gordon Balser, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, will lead the delegation of eight Nova Scotia companies at the trade show March 11-13 in Boston.

"The Boston Seafood Show is a must-attend event for companies involved in the seafood industry," said Mr. Balser. "It is an opportunity to touch base with existing customers and attract new ones, to launch new products and to stay ahead of consumer trends by finding out what's new in the industry."

The show attracts leading manufacturers, distributors and seafood-related companies from all over the world. Several networking and business opportunities are provided over the three days of the show.

"The Nova Scotia companies attending this event are leaders in the industry," said Mr. Balser. "They understand the importance of being at this show and representing themselves to other industry partners."

Sea Star Seafoods Ltd. of Clark's Harbour, Shelburne Co., is one of the companies going to Boston. Company president Adelai Cunningham said Sea Star has been going to the show for 11 years and it always proves beneficial.

"All the major deal makers attend, and we've seen in the past how the show can have a positive effect on the market afterward," said Mr. Cunningham. "It is a great information-gathering opportunity, and although we're there to pick up new accounts, it is also an opportunity to solidify those relationships with existing customers."
