Appleton Rum's Leather-Wrapped Flask Recalled

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is issuing a recall of the flask included in a gift package containing a 375ml bottle of Appleton Estate V/X Rum, a coaster and a leather-wrapped flask.

There is no problem with the Appleton Rum product. Tests have shown, however, there may be a problem with lead leaching from the flask once the rum has been added to it. The tests have shown the lead content to be higher than allowable limits permitted under the Canada Food and Drugs Act.

Consumers who have the flask (product code number 532044) are asked to refrain from using it and to return it to the nearest Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation store for a full refund.

This gift package was last made available to consumers in Nova Scotia for the Christmas 2001 season.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.

This recall pertains to the leather-wrapped flasks only and does not apply to Appleton Rum itself.
