Premier John Hamm expressed his deepest condolences today, Feb. 28, to the family of the late Melodie Elliot Clark.

Born in Bridgewater, Ms. Elliott Clark was a well-known Canadian painter who specialized in combining art and psychiatric nursing skills to help her patients recover. Her talents earned her the Vanier Award and the Governor General's Canada 125 medal.

"Melodie Elliott Clark was an outstanding member of our community and will be dearly missed by many Nova Scotians. Her special talent of art therapy and her personality combined to inspire so many people," said Premier Hamm. "On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I want to send my sympathy to her family on the loss of not only a great artist but, more importantly, a cherished loved one."

Ms. Elliott Clark was 55 and resided in Seabright, Halifax Co., with her husband, Geoff Clark.
