Halifax West Officially Opens

Premier John Hamm goes back to school today, Feb. 26, to officially open the newest facility for students in the province, Halifax West High School.

"This beautiful new school gives students a safe and healthy environment where they will learn and prepare for a rewarding and prosperous future," said Premier Hamm. "This will also be a tremendous asset to the community for years to come."

The premier thanked those involved in the construction for their efforts.

"The exceptional efforts and ideas of parents and the entire school community has resulted in a Halifax West that meets students' and teachers' needs," said the premier. "Each and everyone involved in the planning phase of this school should be very proud today."

The $26-million high school has over 180,000 square feet and capacity for 1,500 students. The school features 80 teaching spaces, a double gym, six technology labs, a teen health centre and a 500-seat auditorium that will be completed by the community.

The school opened to students on Jan. 8.
