Get ready for spring. Spring weight restrictions, that is.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works is advising that roads across the province will soon be closed to heavy trucks.

Michael Baker, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, is monitoring the situation and will provide as much advance notice as possible of road restrictions.

"These restrictions are necessary to protect our roads. When the mild weather finally arrives, and the frost leaves the ground, the road system is vulnerable to heavy loads," said Mr. Baker.

Last year, road closures came into effect on March 4, 2002. The restriction dates depend on weather conditions and are subject to change. They can be announced at any time.

Advertisements containing a complete listing of roads exempt from spring weight restrictions will be published in major newspapers across the province.
