Annual Minimum Wage Review Under Way
The province is looking for public input as it conducts its annual review of Nova Scotia's minimum wage.
The Labour Standards Code requires that a review of the minimum wage be conducted each year. This year's review will be held during the next few weeks. Results are expected sometime in April.
Nova Scotians can provide comments regarding the minimum wage by visiting the What's New section of the Department of Environment and Labour's Web site at www.gov.ns.ca/enla . Written submissions must be received by Friday, Feb. 28 and can be sent to Minimum Wage Review, Department of Environment and Labour, P.O. Box 679, Halifax, NS B3J 2T8.
Nova Scotia's minimum wage was raised in October 2002 to $6 an hour, bringing it in line with the three other Atlantic provinces, but below the Canadian average of $6.60.
About 15,000 of the province's 450,000-person workforce currently earn minimum wage.
