Road Improvements in Yarmouth County
Drivers in Yarmouth County will be cruising over fresh blacktop later this year.
A $1.2-million contract has been awarded to pave sections of Hardscratch and Greenville roads.
"We're investing in roads in Yarmouth County," said Michael Baker, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "The province is continuing its commitment to improve roads and bridges in Nova Scotia."
The project will involve paving of about 7.5 kilometres, including a section of Hardscratch Road, from Greenville Road north to Route 340. It will also include paving of Greenville Road, from the Highway 101 underpass east to Hardscratch Road.
The work is expected to begin in the spring and to be complete by Aug. 31. Dexter Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. District offices are located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney. In the current fiscal year, the department is spending more than $91 million in capital investments on roads and bridges.
