Repaving in Cumberland County
Drivers in Cumberland County will be cruising over fresh blacktop later this year.
A $1.1-million contract has just been awarded to repave six kilometres of Highway 104.
"We're investing in our roads in Cumberland County," said Michael Baker, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "These improvements will help ensure the safety of all Nova Scotians, as well as tourists visiting the area."
The project will involve repairing and repaving the eastbound lanes from the Fenwick Road underpass to Stewart's Brook.
The work, to be done by Dexter Construction Ltd., will begin this spring and is expected to be complete by the end of August.
The department's highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. District offices are located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney. In the current fiscal year, the department is spending more than $91 million in capital investments on roads and bridges.
