More Final Teams Chosen for Canada Games
SPORT/RECREATION COMMISSION--More Final Teams Chosen for Canada Games
Athletes have made the cut for 10 more sports on Team Nova Scotia for the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Bathurst-Campbellton, N.B.
Final selections were made in the fall for archery, artistic gymnastics, badminton, boxing, curling, figure skating, hockey, ringette, speed skating and table tennis.
The first round of final teams to be selected were synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics. They were announced in September. All teams will be finalized by mid-January 2003.
"Our athletes have trained hard to get to this stage and our team is really coming together," said Rodney MacDonald, Minister of Sport and Recreation. "I encourage all Nova Scotians to cheer on our young athletes as they hone their skills and head off to the Games."
About 300 athletes, coaches and managers will represent Nova Scotia at the Games from Feb. 22 to March 8, 2003. About 3,200 athletes from across Canada will compete in 21 sports during the two-week event. Team Nova Scotia will compete in all sports except biathalon and wheelchair basketball.
Athletes who have been named to Team Nova Scotia are listed at http://winter2003.ns.canadagames.ca in the Meet the Team section.
Team Nova Scotia is funded by the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission. The Atlantic Lottery Corporation sponsors Team Atlantic -- supporting all teams from Atlantic Canada for the 2003 Games.
