Don't Buy for Minors and Check 25 Campaign
The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) will be conducting its Don't Buy for Minors and Check 25 campaign throughout the holiday season. The campaign is an ongoing effort to raise awareness of the problem of underage drinking and to deter second-party purchases.
NSLC staff will be conducting aggressive ID checks during the holidays. Newspaper ads, staff buttons and posters in stores will also promote the responsible use of alcohol.
As part of the campaign, the NSLC will conduct the Check 25 campaign. Patrons who appear to be aged 25 or younger will be asked to provide proof of age.
"Not only do we want to verify that they are of legal drinking age, but we want to raise awareness on issues surrounding underage drinking and buying alcohol for minors," said John Strickey, vice-president of merchandising and marketing.
In the last five years, NSLC staff have challenged more than 648,000 IDs.
"Store employees work hard to support and manage our socially responsible retailing programs," said Ken Barbet, vice-president of store operations. "Staff participate in training programs designed to improve skills on ID challenges and customer service. It is our staff's efforts that have made the campaign so successful."
Store staff will challenge more than 250,000 customers with ID checks in liquor stores this year. The NSLC thanks their customers and the public for helping in the campaign to prevent minors from receiving alcohol.
