MADD Canada Red Ribbon Campaign

The signature red ribbons of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Red Ribbon campaign will be available at Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation retail stores again this year.

Throughout December, all 100 NSLC stores across the province will display donation boxes at checkout counters, offering customers the red ribbons for display on the outside of vehicles. Since 1999, more than $17,000 has been raised for MADD Canada through NSLC donation boxes.

"Tying a MADD Canada red ribbon on your vehicle is a simple but effective way to say please don't drink and drive," said Andy Barker, NSLC president. "NSLC employees are very proud to take part in this campaign and to offer customers a way to show their support for sober driving."

"MADD Canada thanks NSLC employees for their support this year. We encourage everyone to Tie One On For Safety and make the commitment to drive sober," said Andrew Murie, national executive director, MADD Canada. "Let's make this holiday season a time for great joy and not sadness due to the tragic consequences that can result from impaired driving. Drinking and driving simply don't mix."

MADD Canada hopes to distribute four million red ribbons across Canada. On average, 4.5 Canadians are killed and 125 are injured every day as a result of impaired-driving crashes. About 40 per cent of all traffic fatalities are alcohol-related.
