Condolences on Passing of Harold Long

Murray Scott, Speaker of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, expressed sadness at the recent death of a former sergeant-at- arms, Maj. Harold Long.

Maj. Long was appointed sergeant-at-arms after a distinguished career in the Canadian army during the Second World War. He brought dignity and honour to his position as an officer of the House.

A native of Pictou County, Maj. Long began his service in the House of Assembly in 1957. He continued in the position until his retirement in 1989, a period of 32 years.

"He will be fondly remembered for his contribution to Nova Scotia and to Canada," said Mr. Scott. "On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Stella and to the Long family."
