SNOW Line Back in Operation
As of Sunday, Dec. 1, the Department of Transportation and Public Works' SNOW line will again be up and running for the winter.
The SNOW line provides a report on road conditions on the province's major highways. The service is available by telephone and the Internet.
"The SNOW Line is another tool available to motorists as they prepare for winter driving," said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. "Being prepared is key to safe driving in inclement weather."
Motorists in Nova Scotia can access the SNOW line by calling 1- 800-307-SNOW (7669) or, in metro Halifax, 902-424-3933. The line is updated every day at 7 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
The road report is also available on the Internet at www.gov.ns.ca/tran . The button in the upper left-hand corner of the page, marked road conditions and weather, gives access to the latest information.
Information for the SNOW line comes from reports from about 30 department bases across Nova Scotia and Environment Canada weather reports. The SNOW line is also used to update Nova Scotia's road reports for the Weather Network.
The SNOW line has been in operation for more than two decades. It operates each year until late March or early April, depending upon weather.
"We've all experienced how unpredictable the weather can be in our province," said Mr. Russell. "We can each do our part by checking the road conditions before heading out and adjusting our driving to the conditions."
