Golden Jubilee Medal Winners Announced

NOTE: A list of recipients, organized by county of residence, appears at the bottom of this release.

Premier John Hamm announced the recipients of the Golden Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II today, Nov. 27.

The Golden Jubilee Medal commemorates the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty's reign as Queen of Canada. The medal program is part of the Jubilee year celebrations organized by the Department of Canadian Heritage. Medals have been awarded to Canadians who have made a significant contribution to fellow citizens, their communities, or to their country.

"I would like to congratulate all recipients on this prestigious honour," said Premier Hamm. "Every individual receiving a medal has demonstrated remarkable commitment to the betterment of their communities and to the well-being of our province."

Recipients were chosen based on recommendations by Nova Scotia's 52 MLAs, the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities, the Department of Justice, the Fire Marshal, the Nova Scotia Youth Secretariat, the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, the Emergency Measures Organization and the Nova Scotia Sport and Recreation Commission.

Additional recipients will be announced upon confirmation of acceptance.
