Conference Focuses on Province's Future
Voluntary Planning is holding a conference today, Nov. 26, to begin discussions on population dynamics -- a significant topic for Nova Scotia's future. Voluntary Planning is an arm's-length policy advisory body to the provincial government.
"Our board of directors believes that the shifting population trends within the province need to be understood and carefully thought through," said Jim Eisenhauer, Voluntary Planning chair. "Many important policy decisions in the months and years ahead will be influenced by population and demographic factors, particularly."
In recent years, Voluntary Planning has given objective, non- partisan advice to government on topics such as fiscal management strategy and non-resident land ownership. Their advice is always based on extensive citizen consultation, worldwide research and expert testimony, all of which is distilled into policy recommendations by knowledgeable task-force members.
"This conference also serves to officially kick-off the new Voluntary Planning, following organizational restructuring," said Mr. Eisenhauer.
About 100 newly recruited volunteers now make up Voluntary Planning, including members who sit on six sector committees.
The six sectors include:
- Education and Lifelong Learning
- Economic Growth and Competitiveness
- Natural Resources
- Fiscal Management Policy
- Environmental Quality and Stewardship
- Health and Social Well-being
