Taxpayers Save with Annual Premiers' Conference
Nova Scotia taxpayers saved more than $115,000 when the province hosted the 43rd annual premiers' conference. The conference took place from July 31 to Aug. 2 in Halifax.
"This conference focused on the priorities of Nova Scotians, from health care to the economy and the environment," said Premier John Hamm. "Thanks to corporate sponsors and hard work by government staff, we were able to save taxpayers a significant amount of money."
The original estimate for hosting this year's conference was $275,000. Private-sector sponsorships totalling about $100,000 and administrative savings of $15,000 helped reduce the overall costs of the event. Total forecasted costs stand at around $157,000.
The premier said that sponsorship revenue defrayed the majority of the costs of dinners, receptions and conference materials.
