Nova Scotia Extends Business Ties with Toronto

Nova Scotia Business Inc. has established an advisory council in Toronto to assist in identifying business development opportunities for the province.

The council is composed of 15 of the city's top business leaders, all with family or business ties to Nova Scotia. Premier John Hamm welcomed the executives into the council at its inaugural meeting in Toronto today, Nov. 13.

"Input from business leaders outside of Nova Scotia, with a different perspective and network, will help strengthen NSBI's efforts to develop strategies for attracting business to the province and increasing exports," said Premier Hamm. "Attracting more external investment and increasing exports will take us another step closer to realizing our economic potential, as outlined in Opportunities for Prosperity."

Council members were selected through a network of NSBI business contacts.

"This business advisory group is an example of our effort to involve high-profile, experienced business leaders with Maritime connections, in driving economic growth for the province," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO of Nova Scotia Business Inc.

The council's first meeting focused on sharing Nova Scotia Business Inc.'s business development strategies and highlighted the case for doing business in Nova Scotia. Members worked to created goals and objectives for the Toronto Business Advisory Council and offered input on how Nova Scotia can improve export and business attraction activity.
