2003 Highway Repaving Tenders
Two major highway repaving projects scheduled for next spring in Cumberland and Yarmouth counties were announced today, Nov. 13, by Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation and Public Works.
"These early tender calls will help contractors better manage their summer operations," said Mr. Russell. "They also help our department manage its capital construction program in a cost- effective way, by spreading work out through a full year of construction activity. The earlier we schedule these projects, the greater the likelihood that we can get the full program out to tender in a timely fashion."
The province will repave six kilometres of the eastbound lanes of Highway 104, from the Fenwick Road underpass structure to Stewart's Brook, near Amherst.
In Yarmouth County, bids are being sought to repave nearly seven kilometres of Hardscratch Road, from Greenville Road northerly to Route 340. A 700-metre section of Greenville Road will also be repaved, from the Highway 101 underpass structure easterly to Hardscratch Road.
"These repaving projects are good news for the local communities and the travelling public," added Mr. Russell. "They are further signs of our increased commitment to improving roads throughout Nova Scotia."
Construction companies must submit bids by Dec. 5.
The Department of Transportation and Public Works' Highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia, maintains an inventory of 3,800 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Its four district offices are located in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
