ENVIRONMENT/LABOUR--Charges Laid in Little Sackville River Incident
Marinus Verhagen Enterprises Limited has been charged under the Environment Act with the unauthorized storage of pyritic slate at a site at Downsview Mall in Lower Sackville.
The violation was discovered during the course of an ongoing investigation into an incident on July 12 that eventually led to the loss of about 4,000 fish in the Little Sackville River.
The company was charged for violating Section 9(2) of the Sulphide Bearing Material Disposal Regulations. A court date has not yet been set.
The incident at the Little Sackville River is still under investigation by the Department of Environment and Labour, Environment Canada and the Public Prosecution Service to determine whether additional charges will be laid.
