Festive Music Abounds At Sherbrooke
When Old Fashioned Christmas activities kick-off in Sherbrooke on Nov. 22, the scene will be set for four weekends of musical events.
A candlelight procession will open the annual event on Friday, Nov. 22, followed by ECMA award winner Kidd Brothers who will present a family Christmas show at the Village Square.
The Old Fashioned Christmas Concert will take place at the Sherbrooke Lions Hall on Saturday, Nov. 23. On Sunday, Nov. 24, an ecumenical choir service will take place at St. James Presbyterian Church in Sherbrooke Village.
George Brothers and Ol' Blue will provide the music for the annual Christmas dinner and dance at the Lions Hall on Saturday, Nov. 30, featuring seasonal music and popular songs from the 40s to the 80s.
A Christmas Ceilidh will be presented at the courthouse on Sunday, Dec. 1 and the MacLean Sisters return to Sherbrooke for the Old Fashioned Christmas Finale. Their unique blend of sweet harmonies and contemporary pop sound are featured on their new Christmas recording, Reflections of Christmas. They will perform material from the CD, which features new songs and wonderful re- workings of Christmas classics.
While the Old Fashioned Christmas activities officially end on Dec. 1, the music will not stop. The Village remains lit and decorated until the new year and courthouse concert organizers will present two additional Christmas concerts.
One of Sherbrooke's favourite musical friends, ECMA winner and Juno nominee John Gracie, will return on Dec. 8 for his fourth Christmas show. The Sherbrooke concert will be Mr. Gracie's first Nova Scotia Christmas show of this season after an extended tour of western Canada.
The final festive offering will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15 with Ardyth and Jennifer's Winter Fire Tour. The Celtic harpists have performed in the courthouse on several occasions, including a well received Christmas show last year.
