Night Paving on Canso Causeway Next Week
TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS--Night Paving on Canso Causeway Next Week
Paving on the Canso Causeway between the Antigonish- Guysborough county line and the Canso Canal Bridge will be done overnight beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
Weather permitting, crews from Ocean Paving Ltd. will work from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m., Tuesday to Thursday, and from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Paving is expected to be completed by Oct. 19.
The overnight work will limit the disruption to traffic and will allow this important project to be completed on schedule.
During scheduled work, traffic will be reduced to one lane and load widths limited to 3.05 metres.
Motorists can expect delays of between 10 and 30 minutes. Longer delays will occur when the causeway bridge is opened to allow marine traffic to pass through the Canso Canal.
Motorists can get up-to-date information on expected delays by calling the toll-free Highway Info Line: 1-866-720-2800.
Paving on the Canso Causeway is part of a larger project that also includes the placement of additional armour stone, repair of drainage systems and improvements to the provincial weigh station. The causeway was damaged by a severe storm on Nov. 7, 2001.
The work will cost $1.2 million.
