Learn Something New at Word on the Street
Nova Scotians are invited to learn something new in the literacy tent at Word on the Street on Sunday, Sept. 29.
What did you learn today? will be the theme of the tent, hosted by the Department of Education and the Nova Scotia Provincial Literacy Coalition.
The tent will feature five exhibits offering visitors the chance to learn something new. Visitors who complete a quiz on the things they learned will get their names in a draw for bookstore gift certificates. The prizes are being donated by the Metro Council on Continuing Education.
"I've been a lover of books all my life," said Education Minister Jane Purves. "The success of Word on the Street each year shows that Nova Scotians share in this love of good writing and know the importance of literacy for our province."
Ms. Purves will deliver a reading at the Celebrity Reading Stage at 12:15 p.m. Guest readers are asked to share an excerpt from a book that influenced them or encouraged them to read.
Word on the Street will be held at Pier 20, Marginal Rd., Halifax from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The annual book and magazine fair celebrates literacy and the printed word.
